What is lacquered glass?
Lacquered glass is a glass pane carrying an opaque colour layer on one face. That painted face is turned inward — against the wall, the shutter or the substrate it is fixed to — so what a person sees is the colour read through the thickness of the glass, with the glass surface itself left as the finished front.

Is back-painted glass the same as lacquered glass?
Yes. ARG states that lacquered glass “is also known as back-painted glass”. [as heard] The two
words describe one product, and which one you hear depends on who you learned it from: fabricators
and glass processors tend to say lacquered, while interior designers, architects and joinery
contractors more often say back-painted.
This matters when you are comparing quotes. A quote headed “back-painted glass” and a quote headed “lacquered glass” are not two different products to be priced against each other. Ask us for either name and you get the same thing.
Where is back-painted glass used in an interior?
As general industry background, back-painted panes turn up in four places again and again: wardrobe and cupboard shutters, wall cladding in lobbies, bedrooms and lifts, splashbacks behind a kitchen counter or basin, and infill panels in partitions and door leaves.
The common thread is a surface that has to be one flat, uninterrupted colour and has to be wiped clean. That is the case a designer is usually making when they specify glass instead of a painted board or a laminate. Note that this paragraph describes what the product is used for across the market — it is not a claim about any particular job.
What colours can you specify?
